デヴィッド・ボウイが1971年に発表した名作『ハンキー・ドリー』。この名作にまつわる48曲もの未発表音源を含む貴重な音源ばかりを4枚のCDと1枚のBLU-RAY AUDIOにたっぷりと収録した豪華ボックス・セット『ディヴァイン・シンメトリー』が、海外で11月25日に発売！ 日本盤の発売に関しては近日情報公開予定！

常に時代の先端を開拓し続けた伝説、デヴィッド・ボウイ。1971年12月発表の名作『ハンキー・ドリー』のリリースへと繋がる、1971年という約12ヵ月間のボウイの姿を、ホーム・デモやスタジオ・ライヴ音源といった貴重な未発表音源とともにまとめあげた、4CD+BLU-RAYオーディオからなる豪華5枚組ボックス・セット『ディヴァイン・シンメトリー』が、海外で11月25日に発売されることとなった。

当時のホーム・デモ音源や、BBCラジオ・セッション音源、ライヴ音源やスタジオ・レコーディング音源といった、48曲もの未発表曲やデモ音源などを含む貴重な音源の数々に加え、オリジナル・プロデューサーであるケン・スコットの手によるアルバム『ハンキー・ドリー』のオルタナティヴ・ミックス音源などを収録した今作は、71年の名作『ハンキー・ドリー』を高らかに祝福する作品となる。なお、今作の日本盤発売情報は、近日中に発表される予定だ。

この『ディヴァイン・シンメトリー』には、4枚のCDとBLU-RAYオーディオに加え、2冊の本が同梱されている。一つは、貴重なメモラビリアや写真、そして詳細なライナーノーツなどが掲載された100ページにも及ぶ豪華ハードカヴァー・ブックで、もう一つは当時のボウイのノートを復刻した、手書きの歌詞や衣装のデザイン画、レコーディング時のメモやセットリストなどを掲載した60ページのブックレットだ。

100ページのハードカヴァー・ブックには、ボウイの専門家であるトリス・ペンナによる書き下ろしのライナーノーツに加え、アルバム『ハンキー・ドリー』で共同プロデューサーとして関わったケン・スコットや、ボウイの生涯の友人、ジェフ・マコーマックとジョージ・アンダーウッド、シンガーのダナ・ギレスピー、ギタリストのマーク・プリチェット、イギリスのクラブ、フライアーズ・アリスバーリーのプロモーターであるデヴィッド・ストップス、出版のボブ・グレースやカメラマンのルアン・リチャードといったボウイとゆかりのある人々の寄稿文も掲載されている。

1971年は、ボウイにとって極めて重要な年となった。彼は新たにRCAとレコード契約を結び、アンディ・ウォーホルやルー・リード、イギー・ポップと出会い、父親となり、そして父親としての誇りを示すために「Kooks」という楽曲を書き上げ、6月にはミック・ロンソンとウッディ・ウッドマンジー、トレヴァー・ボルダーという、後にスパイダース・フロム・マーズと名付けられるバンドと共に初めてライヴを行い、そして名盤『ハンキー・ドリー』をレコーディングしたのは、全てこの1971年の出来事だった。

ボックス・セット『ディヴァイン・シンメトリー』の発売情報と共に公開された「Kooks (Sounds Of The 70s: Bob Harris)」は、BBCのボブ・ハリスがホストを務める「Sounds Of The 70‘ｓ」のためにボウイとギタリストのミック・ロンソンがレコーディングした音源だ。1971年9月21日にＢＢＣラジオのためにロンドンのケンジントン・ハウス、シェファードブッシュ、スタジオＴ1でレコーディングされたもので、1971年10月4日に放送されたもの。

また、2023年2月24日には、本ボックス・セットに収録されている「A DIVINE SYMMETRY (AN ALTERNATIVE JOURNEY THROUGH HUNKY DORY)」の音源全12曲を収録したアナログ盤も発売が予定されている。
